Office Unit

One of the reasons it has been so long since I last posted anything is because I am to busy building projects to write! I installed the entertainment center on the the 11th of July and finished up the detail work on July 16th, which left me with a mere week to finish up the office unit you see below! I charged the customers a rush fee in order to guarantee its install by the 23rd of July, so I really had no choice!

Construction actually began on July 8th, and with a ton of help from my brother, we installed this unit on time! We ended up building , finishing, and installing this project in ten working days! I would usually schedule at least four weeks, but when you have a deadline to meet, you do what you have to do!

The unit is built from birch hardwood and plywoods. Has four drawers, four file drawers, and two cabinet doors. All the shelves are adjustable.

A few final thoughts:

1. Birch is a volatile wood to work with. If you are cutting it very thin, it will bend and warp like crazy!

2. Rush jobs are no fun, but the increased fee may make up for that, but the verdict is still out.

3. Make sure all parties involved are agreed upon who is responsible for which aspects of the project. That way if you are asked to do anything else, there is no question as to why there are additional charges on the final bill.

4. Even in high end homes ($500,000 and up) walls have bows and dips and warps in them.

5. It is very satisfying to take a project from the design phase to the installed phase!
