Media Cabinet – Part 3

Media Cabinet – Alder & Leather

With the cabinet, doors, and drawers fully constructed, we were on to assembling the entire unit.  The client did not want to have any visible hinges, so we used Euro hinges for all the doors. The Euro hinges were a bit unique because the four outside hinges mounted onto the back of the face frame, since the cabinet wall was recessed 1.5″, and the eight hinges mounted on the two middle cabinet walls needed deeper plates to clear the 3/8″ face frame recess.

Here is a close up shot of two of the four laptop trays.

We used full-extension ball-bearing drawer slides for the four keyboard trays and for the middle drawer.

The drawer front is glued and screwed to the tray.

We outsourced the construction and finishing of the central drawer box.  We have found that it is so much less expensive to outsource the construction of drawer boxes to companies which have dedicated machinery set-up for nothing other than manufacturing drawer boxes.

The drawer box material is 1/2″ Pacific Coast Maple, which looks very similar to Alder, and constructed with half-blind dovetails in the corners.
