Coffee Table - Sapele & Stainless Steel

4:09 PM

Coffee Table

This is my latest independent design and the piece I entered into the Interior Designers of Idaho’s 2008 “Chair Affair” furniture competition. My goal with this coffee table was to use thick, heavy material, which is why the top is 1.5″ thick flat-sawn Sapele while the legs are 2″ thick quarter-sawn Sapele, yet build it in such a way that the pieces looked like they floated, never touching each other. There are no wood-to-wood connections. All six pieces are joined with 5/8″ thick stainless steel bars. The 3 coats of tung oil make the grain of the Sapele dance and shimmer in the light.
