Alder Dining Table

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Our most recent project is a simple dining table built from Alder for a client in Sun Valley, ID.  The client currently has a 30″ x 30″ table made from rustic pine that seats four people and wants to replace it with a table that will seat six.

The dimensions are fairly straight forward.  30″ tall, […]

Wine Rack

Friday, December 19th, 2008

One of the most unique projects we have had the pleasure of taking on is a wine rack that is to be built into an old English phone booth.  We have no idea where the client picked it up, but it is a pretty cool find!

I don’t know much about the phone booth, but it […]

This is Jared’s wife Mandi. I’m hijacking his blog in order to embarass him. Since I know all his usual passwords the hacking wasn’t all that hard…
So a few weeks ago I saw a contest for the “Art of Manliness/Old Spice Man of the Year”. Of course Jared is amazing, incredible and very manly so […]

Easel 2

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

With the feet mortised and curved, and the column mortised, and all parts thoroughly sanded, I joined all the parts using loose tenons and glue.

All three feet were glued on at the same time.  A few pin nails held each of them securely in place while the glue dried.

Easel 1

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

This is an easel design that was brought to me back in July.  At the time I said that I couldn’t do it because of the intricate carving work necessary.  The customer then came back to me about a month ago and asked again if I could do it.  Since they really, really wanted it […]

Mirror Frame 3

Friday, September 19th, 2008

After dry fitting the pieces, they were sanded with 220 grit sandpaper and glue together.

After the glue had dried, it was time to wipe on a a couple coats of tung oil.

The tung oil really brought out the shimmering qualities of the Sapele and darkened the Walnut, contrasting the colors of the two woods nicely.

As […]

Mirror Frame 2

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

As I mentioned in the prior post, I was planning on using Walnut for the rails and stiles and Mahogany for the corner blocks.  Well, that all changed once I milled up the Mahogany!  It was an absolutely boring piece of wood.  No unique grain pattern!  No depth of color!  No Nothing!  It was quite […]

It is finally time to post some information about a project, after about a month and a half since the last one!  Today we will be looking at the design and construction of a custom mirror frame that I am building for me and my wife.  I have had a 48″ x 32″ mirror sitting […]

Pergola 1

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Before I launch into my most recent project to quickly let me begin with a little bit of background.  My wife and I have owned a used bookstore for the past three years.  We made the difficult decision about three weeks ago to close the doors for business.  Once all the tears were shed and […]

Office Unit

Friday, August 1st, 2008

One of the reasons it has been so long since I last posted anything is because I am to busy building projects to write! I installed the entertainment center on the the 11th of July and finished up the detail work on July 16th, which left me with a mere week to finish up […]
