At The Shop (10/24)

11:39 AM Comments 2

This week marked the beginning of the kitchen remodel job.  We began turning the 18 sheets of melamine into 13 cabinet boxes!  We began the project on Monday morning, and so far, thanks to careful planning, everything has gone smoothly.

Also, last weekend I was at my parents house and was speaking to my mother about her kitchen and what she liked and disliked about it.  Her favorite thing about it is the small, 2′ x 3′ island.  She never would have guessed how incredibly useful and convenient it has been.  That got me thinking and part way through the week I spoke to the interior designer that gave me this job about adding a small island.  She is speaking with the clients and we should know some time this next week whether or not we will be adding one.

You can follow all the progress over HERE!

We have also made substantial progress on the custom easel.  The rest was mortise and tennoned to the vertical column on Wednesday and it was stained and had the first coat of lacquer sprayed on Friday afternoon.  We should complete it on Monday and deliver it on Tuesday.  Stay tuned for some updated content!

In other news, I attended a business sales class on Wednesday.  One of the wholesale accounts I work with invited me as a guest to a business school, the Sandler Sales Institute, started by the owners of Stronghold Remodeling.  The class lasted 3.5 hours on Wednesday morning and was actually very good.  I am always a bit wary when it comes to attending a sales class.  For me it conjures up images of a pyramid marketing scheme or some other equally useless program, but this program was different, and legitimate.  The class did not teach anything revolutionary, which is good, because the programs that have the “new” and “revolutionary” selling techniques are usually the ones that are absolutely worthless.  This one taught many things I had already heard before, but when heard again, helped to reinforce and encourage me in many of the steps that I am already taking to sell my skills and services.  I should also mention that the class is an eight month course that meets once a week, so my 3.5 hours was a mere snapshot at the curriculum.  I was also able to introduce myself and network with some other business people, which is always a nice thing to do.

Well, that about wraps up last week’s activities.  So, check back throughout the week for the final easel post, as well as updates on the kitchen project.

    Jared,

You should update your link to Stronghold’s site to http://strongholdremodeling.com. That is their new site. They are also a client of mine.

I have always heard good things about their sales courses.
