After a Long Days Work
I figured my day yesterday (6/9) deserved a mention on the blog. Yesterday I was buried to my eyeballs in projects, which I began working on non-stop from 7:45 AM until 3 PM! As a result my humble shop looked like a disaster! I don’t have much workbench surface to work on, just one main workbench measuring 4×6 and another table top measuring 3×5, so if they get to cluttered I am out of luck.
Observe this problem. The bench below is my main work surface. On it I have an assortment of tools and wrenches, the case to my skill saw, the tops, turned legs, and feet to the two pub tables I am building, glue, a drill, rags, jigs, and a camera case. In the end, it tends to act as a catch-all for everything that has touched my hands throughout the day.
Here is another picture of the same workbench from the other side. When this much stuff gets used and set down on the nearest level surface, one spends more time searching for a specific tool than actually using it!
Here is the second, and only other work surface I have. There are a few clamps, a dust pan and broom, a rubber mallet, a box of knobs for a project, and some parts for one of the projects I was working on that day.
I commandeered the desk part of an office unit I am building to help hold all the crap I used throughout the day. A few clamps, a level and a straightedge, safety glasses, a drill, ear protectors, and a white scrap piece of something.
This is my favorite picture! Don’t show this one to OSHA because I am sure it violates a dozen or so safety rules! I have a ten foot aluminum bar, a skill saw and power cord, and an air hose with two nail guns spread out all over the floor. What can I say? I was busy and that is where they came to rest.
P.S. By the time this post was published, the mess in the pictures was all cleaned up and Jared was a much happier woodworker!
